House Rules for the Site, the Bench and the Stage

A few plain-language ground rules for reading our pages, using the calculator and working with us. We wrote them the way we would say them across the bench.

Who is talking

This site belongs to 24th Street Roots & Tube Audio Collective LLC, a Michigan company based at 1515 Michigan Ave, Corktown, Detroit. When we say “we,” that is the company, the band and the bench together. When we say “you,” that is anyone reading.

Reading and borrowing

Please read, link and quote. A sentence or two with a credit and a link back is welcome. Please do not copy whole pages, charts or tables onto another site and call them yours. The writing, the arrangements, the calculator code and the layout belong to the company. The recordings belong to the band and to the people who played on them.

The calculator and the bench notes are guidance, not a license to work on live equipment

The bias calculator gives you a starting figure from a simple formula. It does not know your amp, your tubes’ age, your transformer or your meter. Tubes are individuals, and the published limits we show are commonly quoted values that may not match every manufacturer’s sheet. Treat the answer as the first number you check, not the last.

The inside of a tube amplifier can hold deadly voltage, even when it is unplugged. If you open a chassis you accept the risk. Our notes are an account of what we do at our own bench, with our own training and tools. They are not a safety course. If you are not sure, do not open it.

Booking the band

An email to booking@the24thstreetwailers.com starts the conversation. A date is held for you when we have a short written agreement and a deposit on both sides of the table. The agreement lists the date, hours, stage and power needs, and the fee. If a date falls through, the agreement says who owes what, and we keep to it the way we expect you to.

Leaving an amp or a reel with us

  • We give you an estimate before we replace anything beyond what we discussed, and we wait for your answer.
  • We hand back every part we remove that you want back, in a bag with your name on it.
  • We take care of your gear as if it were ours, and we carry insurance for the shop. We are not responsible for wear that was already there, or for failures of old parts that had no sign of trouble before we opened the chassis.
  • When we say an amp is ready, please collect it within a reasonable time. If it sits, we will contact you before doing anything else with it.
  • Reels you give us for transfer stay private. We return the originals and deliver the transfers to you alone.

Recording with us

We record live to two-track tape. What the tape hears is what you get. We do not remix, fix pitch or move notes after the fact. Before the session we agree who owns the master and who may release it. If nothing is written down, the artist owns their performance and the collective owns its tape stock and gear.

Links and mistakes

This site has no links to other websites, so there is no one else’s page to be responsible for. We do our best to keep facts right, and when we are wrong we correct them. Tell us at bench@the24thstreetwailers.com.

Where disputes go

If something goes wrong, first talk to Harlan Kovacs by email or in person. Most problems end there. If one does not, Michigan law governs, and the courts in Wayne County, Michigan, are where we would sort it out. This page was last reviewed on October 28, 2026.

Questions about any of this are welcome. Go back to the home page or write to booking@the24thstreetwailers.com.
